Work begins to replace bridge
LINN CREEK – Work to replace the Route 54 outer road bridge over Linn Creek in
Linn Creek’s industrial area was scheduled to begin this week. Culvert work to
improve drainage will also take place.
Work to extend a box culvert on Business Park Road north of the Linn Creek Post
Office was scheduled to start last Monday (October 30).
Commercial vehicle traffic on the eastbound outer road will be detoured to Lower
Business Park Road as a result of the work, which is scheduled for completion on
Dec. 1.
Replacement of the bridge will take place in stages beginning in mid-November.
The first phase will involve building a portion of the new bridge south of the
existing bridge and will not impact traffic.
Both lanes of the outer road will remain open.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved a contract to
replace the bridge in June of this year awarding the work to E and C Bridge for
a cost of $1,063,874.
The current bridge is a reinforced concrete bridge with one main span and was
built in 1930.
A hole appeared in the span of the bridge in 2008 forcing closure of the bridge
until MoDOT could repair it. The concrete fell away from the bridge leaving a
hole with only the rebar showing.
The Missouri Department of Transportation did not state how long the
construction of the new bridge would take.
