Camdenton Board of Aldermen actions Tues. Mar. 17

CAMDENTON - On other business at the March 17 Board of Aldermen meeting:
* Ordinances correcting an omission in two supplemental agreements with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) concerning Phase 1 and 2 of the city’s sidewalk grant project were approved by the board.

According to City Administrator Jeff Hancock, the board had approved the original agreement at its Feb. 3 meeting but while reviewing the language MoDOT discovered that the Federal Aid Provisions had been accidentally omitted.

The two ordinances place the provisions back into the agreements.

* A resolution renewing the city’s “interagency letter of agreement” with Kids Harbor was approved by the board at the request of Police Chief Laura Wright.

According to Wright, Kid's Harbor was founded years ago to work toward a “Multi Disciplinary” investigative approach to lessen the trauma to the child while improving the quality of an investigation.

“Investigations involving child abuse or child sexual abuse are difficult,” Wright stated in a report to the board. “Several different agencies are involved and it takes a person with special skills to conduct the interview with younger victims.”

She added that by working with Kids Harbor, the department has the ability to collect the forensic evidence that doesn't further traumatize a child.

Wright that Kids Harbor has its own operating budget and the “interagency letter of agreement” does not require a membership fee.

* In addition, a resolution approving a contract with J&R Engineering, LLC to inspect and maintain the Camdenton Memorial Airport’s Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS).

The three-year contract company will provide required inspections and FAA reports for $203 per month billed four times a year at $609 each calendar quarterly period as well as maintenance and repairs services for the AWOS at a rate of $65 an hour plus parts.

* A request from Police Chief Laura Wright to apply for a 50/50 U.S. Department of Justice ballistic vest grant was approved by the board.

“Department of Justice offers a grant each year to cover up to 50 percent of the cost for ballistic vests for officers,” Wright stated in a report to the board. “The grant usually opens in April, funding is usually available by August and the money must be used within two years.”

Wright noted she anticipates purchasing four vests at a cost of approximately $700 for a total of $2,800.

“I plan to include funding to cover the 50 percent of vest cost for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 budgets,” Wright stated.

*The board also approved a request from the police chief to hire Joshua Worley as a police officer. According to Wright, Worley completed the Missouri Sheriffs Association Training Academy in 2011 and holds a Class A certification from Missouri Peace Officers Standards & Training.

“He worked for Missouri Department of Corrections from 2006 to 2011, the Cole County Sheriff’s Department in the Detention Facility from 2011 to 2013 and the New Franklin Police Department from November of 2013 to the present,” Wright added.

* Building Official Dennis Croxton was presented a 10-year pin by Mayor John McNabb in addition to a municipal service award for those 10 years by the Missouri Municipal League and the city.

The award is given “in respect for those individuals who work from within for the betterment of municipal government and their communities.”

* The city also hosted a formal ceremony designating Camdenton as a Purple Heart City. A representative from the Military Order of the Purple Heart presented a plaque accepted by Mayor John McNabb.

The presentation was supposed to take place at the March 3 board meeting but was rescheduled because of winter weather concerns.
