Morgan County election results

(Editor’s note: Some of the municipalities on the Morgan County Ballot are also in other counties. Some of the outcomes may be different once the other county votes are added. Unless stated, the results below are only the Morgan County votes.)

MORGAN COUNTY - As with several other Use Tax proposals the one submitted to the City of Versailles voters was defeated, as was the one for the City of Laurie.

The question posed to city voters:

“Shall the City of Versailles, Missouri impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action?”

Voters cast 130 for the tax and 149 against.

But Morgan County voters did approve two other tax-related issues.

In the Otterville Fire Protection District, which is in Morgan and Cooper County, voters addressed Proposition C which said:

“Shall the Board of Directors of the Otterville Fire Protection District be authorized to levy and additional tax of not more than ten cents per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for the purpose of providing funds for the general support of the District including increasing the level of fire services and making capital improvements throughout the District?”

Morgan County voters cast 11 votes for and one against. Adding that to the Cooper County votes (97 for and 27 against) the measure passed.

Voters also had two names to choose from for two positions on the Otterville Fire Protection board, Matt Schoen and Colby R. Watring.

In the Gravois Special Road District, voters elected to continue a tax. The ballot question was:

“Shall the Gravois Special Road District #8 of Morgan County continue the levy tax of ten (10) cents on the hundred dollar valuation, for a period of four (4) years? This is not an increase of the present rate.”

Yes votes were 176 while the no votes were 45.
