Infant survives fatal rollover

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – An infant has survived a rollover accident that took the life of the driver last week.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), last Monday, April 9, around 5:42 p.m., a 1998 Buick LeSabre, driven by Cathy Byler, 48, of Montreal, MO, was eastbound at 14469 West Highway 54 in Macks Creek when the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Byler was pronounced dead at the scene by Camden County Medical Examiner Dee Ballard.

A one-year-old infant, from Eldon, MO, who was a passenger in the vehicle, survived with minor injuries and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital.

According to the MSHP, the infant was wearing a safety device but the driver was not.

On Wednesday, March 11, another accident resulted in moderate injuries to the driver.

The MSHP stated that a 1994 Ford Explorer, driven by Anna Hilton, 73, of Macks Creek, MO, was eastbound on Highway 54 east of Route N when the vehicle traveled off the roadway, down an embankment and over a creek where it struck a ditch.

Hilton was taken to Lake Regional by ambulance with Moderate injuries. She was wearing a safety device.

Last Thursday, a motorcycle vs car accident in Miller County sent a Sunrise Beach man to the Hospital.

According to the MSHP, a 2017 Harley Davidson, driven by Thomas Bashaw, 55, of Sunrise Beach, MO, was eastbound on Route W at Jade Road when it failed to yield to a 2017 Ford Escape, driven by Rachelle David, 37, of Independence, MO.

The motorcycle struck the rear of the vehicle, began skidding, ran off the right side of the road before beginning to roll and coming to a stop, ejecting the driver.

Bashaw, who was wearing a safety device, was transported to Lake Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. The MSHP said the motorcycle was totaled in the accident.

David, who was also wearing a safety device, was not injured and the vehicle received only minor damage.
