Warrants land man in jail


CAMDEN COUNTY - A man wanted in connection to a DWI death of a woman last year has been arrested.

On Tuesday March 26, the Camden County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) issued a press release stating that Kevin J. Kennedy, 21, of Montreal, MO., was taken into custody on March 22 on several outstanding warrants.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) on July 18, 2018 at 8:30 a.m., Kennedy was driving a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan on Route Z one mile north of Route 7 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2015 Ford Edge.

The Caravan overturned and a passenger, Brittany Barfield, 24, of Edwards, MO was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

In the accident, Kennedy suffered serious injuries and was flown by Staff for Life to University Hospital in Columbia, according to the MSHP.

The driver of the other vehicle and three other passengers in Kennedy’s vehicle received minor injuries. Barfield and Kennedy were not wearing their seat belts but all the others involved were.

A warrant was issued for Kennedy on February 27 of this year.

According to the CCSD, multiple other warrants were outstanding at the time of his arrest.

• February 27, 2019 – (All of these charges come from the July 12 fatal accident): DWI - Death Of Another, Possession Of Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Marijuana/Synthetic Cannabinoid, Fail To Drive On Right Half Of Rdwy When Rdwy Was Of Sufficient Width, Resulting In An Accident, Unlawful Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia - Prior Drug Offense, Ownr Opr Mv Wtht Maintng Fncl Rspnblty (Mv Rqrd To Be Regd) - 2nd/Sub Offense, Driver/Front Seat Passenger Fail To Wear Properly Adjusted/Fastened Safety Belt. Bond was set at $100,000 cash or $100,000 Surety
• March 25, 2019 - Resisting/Interfering With Arrest - Bond $2,000 Cash or $20,000 Surety.

He was taken to the Camden County Adult Detention Center.
