Franklin recognizes outstanding youth

CAMDENTON - State Representative Diane Franklin presented Maya Irvine with a House Resolution along with a Proclamation from the Governor recognizing her being named one of five Afterschool Ambassadors in the United States.

Irvine, a ninth grade student at Camdenton High School has been selected to serve in the inaugural class of Youth Afterschool Ambassadors appointed by the Afterschool Alliance.

Irvine is a member of the Camdenton FIRST LASER Robotics team and is now one of five students from across the nation to be selected as an Ambassador.

“This is such a great accomplishment, being named as one of only five in the entire country to be an Afterschool Ambassador, I am so proud of Maya and I know she will represent not only our school well but will make all Missourians proud” said Franklin.

Along with several other activities aimed at promoting afterschool programs, Irvine and the other ambassadors will travel to Washington, D.C. where they will participate in the annual Afterschool for All Challenge and will also meet with several members of Congress and their staff stressing the importance of afterschool programs.

“This is such a great opportunity for Maya, but it also speaks volumes about the outstanding program we have right here in Camdenton. It is so great to see a young person like Maya achieve goals she has set for herself” concluded Franklin.
