Two die in lake area accidents
LAKE OF THE OZARKS – Two people have died in lake area accidents last week, one on the roads and one drowning.
The first fatality occurred on June 26 on Highway 54 approximately a half mile west of Route 87 in Miller County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) a 2004 F150 driven by Mark A. Lepper, 49, from Jefferson City, was traveling west when he swerved to avoid a slower moving vehicle.
The F150 then overturned and Lepper was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead by Miller County Coroner Tim Bradley at the scene. According to the MSHP, he was not wearing a safety device.
The drowning occurred at the 26 Mile Marker of the Osage Arm around 11:45 a.m. last Tuesday (June 27).
According to the MSHP, E D Smith, 75, of St. Charles, MO, suffered some type of medical issue and fell into the water. He was located face down near a sea wall and was pronounced dead at the scene by Camden County Coroner Wendy Prior.
No other information was released in the incident. This is the first drowning for Troop F in the month of June.
