Cuba man faces assault charges
OSAGE BEACH - A 55-year-old Cuba man faces charges after allegedly tackling a
police officer and placing him in a choke hold.
According to the Osage Beach Police Department, officers were called to the
scene of a disturbance at a condominium complex on Bridgepoint Drive on Sept. 14
at approximately 9:25 p.m.
The initial caller advised that a male subject was standing outside of one of
the units screaming and threatening to kick the door in.
“When the first officer arrived, he witnessed a female standing near a pickup
truck with a male subject - later identified as Jeffrey L. Turnbough, 55, from
Cuba, Mo. - screaming and pacing back and forth in front of the woman in an
aggressive manner,” the OBPD stated.
Turnbough was told to stand in front of the squad car; he continued to scream at
the woman and officer, according to the OBPD.
The officer asked Turnbough if he had any weapons.
According to the OBPD, he admitted to having a knife but when the officer
attempted to pat him down, Turnbough pushed the officer’s hand away and became
extremely agitated, yelling obscenities and telling the officer to arrest him.
“As the officer attempted to cuff Turnbough, Turnbough turned and attacked the
officer, knocking him off balance,” the OBPD stated. “Turnbough tackled the
officer to the ground after which he - Turnbough - placed the officer in a choke
hold.”
The second officer arrived and with the use of pepper spray, Turnbough released
the initial officer and was taken into custody.
“The woman had been choked and further physically assaulted by Turnbough prior
to the officer’s arrival,” the OBPD stated. “The victim was checked by ambulance
personnel at the scene.”
Police state that they learned Turnbough intended to come to the area and commit
an offense where officers would be forced to arrest him.
Turnbough was transported to the Camden County Jail. He was charged with 2nd
degree assault on a police officer, 2nd degree domestic assault and resisting
arrest. A bond was set by Judge Colyer of $5,000 cash or $20,000 Surety.
Turnbough posted bond on Sept. 17. The case has an Initial Arraignment set for
Oct. 20 before Judge Aaron Koeppon.
