OB Board of Aldermen actions Thursday Sept. 18

OSAGE BEACH - In other business at the Sept. 18 Board of Aldermen meeting:
* A contract modification with Travis Hodge Hauling for repairs to two lift stations was approved by the board.

According to Public Works Director Nick Edelman, the existing anchor bolts will not match the new guide rail assemblies for Lift Station 49-2.

“This bid item is to direct the contractor to install new anchor bolts in the correction orientation,” Edelman said in a report to the board. “This work is necessary to utilize the new guide rail assemblies and have an operational pump station.”

This fourth contract modification adds $750 to the project and brings the total contract cost to $42,789.44.

* The board approved the addition of 10 lift stations to the city’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for remote monitoring of the city’s water and sewer system.

“This system is vital to the Public Works Department,” Edelman said.

According to a report to the board from Public Works Director Edelman, the board had approved SCADA additions in April including a “wireless backbone” at the Swiss Village and Bluff Road water tower sites.

“Systems Manufacturing has agreed to honor their price of $6,349 per site as outlined in their previous proposal,” Edelman said in his report.

The additional 10 SCADA remote monitoring systems will cost $63,490. In addition, the board approved a budget amendment to cover the cost of the 10 SCADA systems.

* Another contract modification - this one for the El Terra Well fencing project - was approved by the board.

“During construction of the fencing contract around El Terra Well House, the communication system between the Swiss Village water tower and the well was damaged,” Edelman said in a report to the board.

He pointed out that the damage was no fault to the contractor, Ken Kauffman and Sons Excavating, LLC.

“We are requesting to allocate an additional $10,430.” Edelman stated.

The cost for repairing the damage is $4,700. As before, the board also approved a budget amendment to pay for the contract modification. This brings to total cost of the project to $38,530.

* The board approved a request from Edelman to allocate up to $80,000 for the re-building of grinder pumps.

“Instead of buying new pumps, sometimes we will rebuild the pumps,” Edelman said.

The city had requested bids for the re-building project and awarded the bid to JCI Industries. The process includes disassembling the pump to prepare a report outlining what is wrong and the cost of replacing the pump versus repairing the pump.

* Park fees were waived by the board for the Missouri Canine Association training event set for Sept. 22-26 at the City Park.

Assistant City Administrator Jeana Woods made the request, stating that during the association’s use of the park in 2012, the application process and fee collection had been overlooked.

The mistake was recently discovered, Woods said in a report to the board, and suggested waiving the fees at this late stage of the event.

* Gloria O’Keefe was appointed as an alternate to the city’s Board of Adjustment at the request of Mayor Penny Lyons. O’Keefe will replace Don Hall who resigned from the board because of relocating.

* The board also approved a request from City Clerk Diann Warner to move the Oct. 16 board meeting to Oct. 23.

Warner stated that the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding is annual Fall Celebration Dinner on Oct. 16 and the city was scheduled be recognized during the event as a Chamber member for over 25 years.
