Camdenton Board of Aldermen actions Tues. Jan. 17

CAMDENTON - In other business at the Jan. 17 Camdenton Board of Aldermen meeting:

* The city is investigating what appears to a possible blockage at the new Rodeo Well project. According to City Administrator Brenda Colter, video of the well showed rocks across the line at approximately 940 feet.

The city had approved drilling the well past its original depth of 925 feet to 1,100, increasing the water flow from 250 gallons per minute to 400 gallons per minute.

Colter stressed that the well was still capable of producing water flow and it was unclear how the “rocks” would affect it.

Missouri Department of Natural Resource (DNR) geologists and the original drilling company were expected to further investigate the matter this Wednesday.

* Gary Braman spoke to the board about the city park’s disc golf course. “It’s coming along nicely,” Braman said. “There’s been a lot of volunteer hours.”

Braman stated that the disc golf course has already had “quite a bit of traffic out there” and there have been groups from out of town using the course on weekends.

The board praised Braman‘s efforts to create the course. “It’s been a labor of love and I’ve enjoyed it immensely,” Braman said.

In addition, the board approved “Dragon Ridge” as the disc golf course’s official name.

The Dragon Ridge course has since been listed on the Professional Disc Gold Association‘s website (www.pdga.com).

The website describes the course as “play(ing) through some rough terrain in Camdenton City Park - good shoes and plenty of water recommended. Marked tees, tee signs, and navigation signs.”

It further stated that the course is “still pretty rough, but volunteers are working to groom the course.”

* The board approved a $57,700 bid from Kaufman & Son to relocate outfall #001 at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

City Administrator Colter had informed the board on Nov. 15, 2011 that the city had received approval from DNR to relocate the outfall which will require approximately 3,500 of line to be placed across DNR property.

* Police Chief Laura Wright told the board that her department’s end-of-the-year statistics noted a 20 percent overall increase in police calls over the last four years but that there had been a decrease in vehicle crash reports since 2006.

In addition, Wright noted that the upcoming Citizens Police Academy program had been put on hold because of a lack of applicants. She hoped the program could be revisited in the spring.

* Assistant City Administrator Mike Nichols noted that the grant application for the proposed Camdenton Memorial Airport runway extension project had been submitted to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Nichols said he expected MoDOT to reply to the applications sometime in the spring.

* Airport Manager Cory Leuwerke (of Lake Aviation, the fixed based operator of Camdenton Memorial Airport) said that the airport’s end-of-the-year fuel sales were down one percent compared to last year.

He added that 2011 was better than 2008 where fuel sales had dipped down 18 percent compared to the previous year.

Leuwerke said there had been a lot of training flights that added to the fuel sales in December and that a number of those seeking flight training were soldiers from Ft. Leonard Wood.

Leuwerke also gave an update on the upcoming airshow set for sometime in September. Leuwerke said a “wing walker act” had already been booked for the event and he was working with the military to get static displays of aircraft.
