Fire district begins ALS program
OSAGE BEACH - The Osage Beach Fire Protection District (OBFPD) has launched a non-transport Advanced Life Support (ALS) program designed to provide a higher level of emergency medical care to patients within the Fire District.
When an OBFPD ALS unit arrives before an ambulance, specially trained Fire District paramedics can now begin advanced lifesaving care sooner.
Ambulance transport and ALS care will continue to be provided by the licensed ambulance agencies already serving the area.
“This is an important improvement in the level of on-scene emergency medical service available to residents and visitors,” a OBFPD spokesman said. “The goal is simple: to get the right care to the patient as quickly as possible and support efficient ambulance transport when continued care is needed.”
The non-transport ALS program allows Fire District paramedics to provide advanced patient assessment, cardiac monitoring, medication administration when indicated and coordination with the transporting ambulance crew.
OBFPD is also working toward staffing Fire Station 3 on Midway Drive, which is currently in the design and engineering phase for remodeling.
The goal is to provide full 24/7/365 staffing within the next 8 to 12 months.
Once staffed, Station 3 will place firefighters closer to residents, businesses and visitors west of Osage Beach along the Highway 54 corridor, including areas along Route V and Route A in the Linn Creek area.
