Eldon Police Department chase ends in arrest
ELDON - Another week and another chase by law enforcement.
The man was eventually arrested after allegedly leading police in a chase traveling through two counties.
According to the Probable Cause Statement (PCS) filed with the court, last Wednesday May 27 at approximately 7:14 p.m., an officer with the Eldon Police Department was conducting a general patrol in the area of East North Street and North Business 54 in Eldon.
While in the area, he said he observed a gray Ford Mustang traveling on the roadway with no license plates displayed on the vehicle.
The officer got behind the Mustang and activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.
The PCS continues the story.
“After I activated my emergency equipment, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Michael Loren Kaiser, accelerated and failed to yield. Based on Kaiser’s actions, I believed he was knowingly fleeing from a lawful traffic stop. Kaiser initially failed to yield in the area of 826 E-North Street. While Kaiser was fleeing on E North Street, an area where there are homes on either side, I observed people being on the sidewalk of E North Street.”
The officer began pursuing in the area of East North Street and continued onto Highway M/MO-87, where the roadway travels under Highway 54.
Kaiser continued on Highway M, passing Pin Oak Road, Burkle Pond Road and Milldale Road, before reaching the area of Highway M and M-18/Central Hill Road.
Once Kaiser turned onto Central Hill Road the officer noticed his driver side window was open allowing him to briefly see inside. The officer was able to get a quick description of Kaiser (the driver) as a white older male.
The pursuit continued onto Central Hill Road, passing 107 Central Hill Road, 157 Central Hill Road, and 177 Central Hill Road. Kaiser then continued until Central Hill Road became Greystone Road.
He continued on Greystone Road to the intersection of Greystone Road and Storage Road and then continued on Storage Road until it connected to Highway MM, where he turned northbound on Highway MM toward Highway 54.
The officer eventually lost sight of Kaiser but another officer picked up the pursuit providing radio updates.
The chase continued and dispatch later advised that Cole County Sheriff’s Office deputies had deployed spike strips near Southwest Lane, just before Eugene. Kaiser’s vehicle was later confirmed to have struck spike strips deployed by the Cole County Sheriff's Office along MO-17.
The other pursuing officer also struck the spike strips disabling his vehicle. Cole County Sheriff's Office continued the pursuit while the Eldon officer was told to assist the other officer that had struck the spike strips.
“According to information later provided by dispatch and Cole County Sheriff’s Office, Kaiser continued fleeing until his vehicle came to a stop in Doolittle trailer park in Eldon, Missouri,” the PCS said. “According to information from Dispatch Cole County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Miller County deputies had stopped the vehicle and detained Kaiser. Once I later arrived to the location of the stop, Cole County Sheriff’s Office deputies advised that Kaiser lost control of the vehicle, slid off the roadway and stopped just before striking a utility pole.”
According to the Eldon PD, Kaiser’s driver’s license was suspended. After he was taken into custody a search of the vehicle allegedly turned up an insulin needle that was field tested at the scene for the presence of methamphetamine.
The field test yielded a positive result for methamphetamine using a NarTech methamphetamine tester, the officer stated.
Kaiser was transported to Lake Regional Hospital where a fit-for-confinement evaluation was obtained. He was then transported to the Miller County Sheriff’s Office.
Kaiser was charged with Aggravated Fleeing A Stop Or Detention (Felony). His $25,000 Surety Bond was posted last Friday, May 29.
A reminder that Kaiser is innocent of all charges until proven guilty in a court of law.
