Morgan County ballot results

MORGAN COUNTY - Tax increases were also on the ballot for some voters in Morgan County, along with choosing those to represent them on various boards.

Smithton R-VI

Morgan County voters residing in the Smithton R-VI School District voted yes for the district to borrow 3.5 million dollars and also voted for two people for the school board from two names on the ballot, Brendan Bass and Curt Tagtmeyer.

The question presented to voters is:

“PROPOSITION 2 SECURE OUR FUTURE

“Shall the Board of Education of the Smithton R-Vl School District, Missouri, borrow money in the amount of Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($3,500,000) for the purpose of providing funds to implement safety and security improvements District-wide; to renovate and relocate the existing Elementary school drop off area and playground; to renovate and relocate the preschool; to provide covered areas at the entrance of the elementary and secondary buildings; to convert existing lighting to LED; to resurface parking lots; to renovate ceilings, floors, and walls in classrooms; to replace heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units; to upgrade sidewalks; to install new turf and landscaping; to the extent funds are available, acquire equipment and complete other repairs and improvements to the existing facilities of the District; and issue general obligation bonds for the payment thereof resulting in an estimated increase to the debt service property tax levy of $0.4900 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation?\

“If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the School District is estimated to increase from $0.0000 to $0.4900 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.”

Camdenton R-III School District

Two directors for the Board of Education, three-year terms were needed from three names on the ballot: Gail Griswold, Brian Butts and Michael Brandon Gulledge. None of the three received any Morgan County votes.

Voters in Camden County cast 988 votes for Michael Brandon Gulledge, 956 for Brian Butts and 940 for Gail Griswold.

School of the Osage

Three names were on the ballot for two positions on the Board of Education. Combing the numbers for Camden, Morgan and Miller Counties, voters cast 872 for Barbara J. (B.J.) Page, 893 for C. Michael Williams and 748 for Joyce Bush.

Tipton R-VI School District

Two Directors for the Board of Education were needed with four names on the ballot. David Tuttle brought in 44 Morgan County votes, Stephanie Oldham 30, Derek Tuttle 44 and Melisa Wolf 36.

In addition, the school district was also seeking more money.

“Shall the Board of Education of the Tipton R-VI School District be authorized to increase the operating tax levy up to one dollar ($1.00) per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to maintain teacher salaries at a competitive and comparable level to school districts of similar size in Mid-Missouri?

“If this question is approved, the adjusted operating levy ceiling of the District is estimated to be $3.9301 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.”

Morgan County voters cast 31 votes for and 49 against.

Otterville R-VI School District

This district needed two directors from three names on the ballot, David Morrison, Jessica Helmig and Ryan C. Coday.

Helmig brought in 28 votes, Morrison 20 and Coday 16.

The school district was also seeking more money.

“Shall Otterville R-VI School District of Cooper County, Missouri, issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $1,700,000 for the purpose of improving, renovating, furnishing and equipping existing school sites and buildings, including, but not limited to, (1) improvements to HVAC systems and roofing, (2) improvements to the District playgrounds and ballfields and (3) acquisition of school buses?

“If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the District is estimated to remain unchanged from the current debt service levy of $0.6700 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.”

Morgan County voters cast 27 for and 6 against.

Other entities on the ballot

Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District

Two names were also needed for the Board of Directors with four names on the ballot. Combining the totals from Camden and Morgan County, Troy Meyer received 233 votes, Rick Butler 177, Timothy Dempsey 176 and Bob Hemen 67.

The Barnett Special Road District #3 was seeking two commissioners, one for a three-year term and the other for a two-year term. Bert Branstetter is the only name on the ballot for the three-year term and there is no name on the ballot for the two-year term so a write-in was needed but no one was written in.

City of Barnett

A.J. Behrens was the only name on the ballot for the position of Mayor as was Carol Callison for Alderman Ward 2. There was no name on the ballot for the Ward 1 position so a write-in was needed.

City of Laurie

Like Barnett, there was only one name on the ballot for Mayor and that was Hugh Smith. Justin Chorpening was also the only name on the ballot for Ward 1 and there was no name for Ward 2 so a Write-in was needed.

Laurie also wanted to increase taxes.

“Shall the City of Laurie impose a sales tax of .005 (half of one cent) for the purpose of providing funding for the Laurie City Park in Laurie Missouri?”

This vote was a tie with 20 yes and 20 no votes.

City of Stover

Sharon Fry was the only name on the ballot for City Collector. Gregg M. Sidebottom and Jake Judd were seeking to fill two positions for Alderman at Large.

Stover also wanted more money.

“Shall the City of Stover, Missouri impose a one-half of one percent (0.5%) city sales tax, for a period of five (5) years, for the purpose of providing funding for the local parks for the City of Stover?

Voters cast 68 yes votes and 52 no for this issue.

City of Sunrise Beach

The city needed two names for Board of Trustee, two-year terms. Four people were seeking the positions. Combining Morgan and Camden County results, the following votes were tallied:

One person was needed for a One-Year term as a Trustee on the Board with only one name, Michael George, on the ballot.

City of Syracuse

The city needed to fill two Aldermen positions with two names on the ballot: Ellen C. Twyman and Brad H. Campbell.

City of Versailles

Libby Webb was the only name on the ballot for a four-year term as Collector.

Like many of the other tax entities, Versailles also wanted more money and voters approved with 50 yes and 34 no.

“Shall the City of Versailles, Missouri repeal and replace the existing sales tax in the amount of 1/4 of 1% with a sales tax of 1/2 of 1% for the purpose of providing revenues for the operation of the City of Versailles Fire Department?”

Town of Gravois Mills

Three people were needed for the office of Trustee but only two names were on the ballot, Michael Hudgins and Barbara Newkirk so a write-in was needed for the third position but no names were written in.
